Mudassar Manzoor

“Muddassar Manzoor’s solitary figures are lost in contemplation, disengaged from the world, yet very much part of its’ alluring beauty. Manzoor revels in the majesty of nature. The skills so carefully honed in the miniature studio are brought to the fore; the palette is masterly, the surface treated like a jewel. For painters trained as Manzoor has been, the handling of gold leaf has major implications. The Moghul Masters are held up as examples. Manzoor uses the enticements of gilding to enhance the contrasts inherent in his work; between austerity and splendour, between the spiritual and the worldly.”

Manzoor was born in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1979. While belonging to the neo-miniature generation, alongside Ali Kazim and Khadim Ali, he was trained under internatonally acclaimed Imran Qureshi. Mudassar Manzoor’s works received international recognition in 2007 after best young painter award (A vision of the future) in 2006 by Lahore Arts Council. Since than Manzoor is the leading figure of Painting and inspired a new way of painting on wasli paper in Pakistan. His works have been the subject of several solo exhibitions and group shows worldwide, also featuring in several private collections, in Indian Subcontinent, Europe and the US.
